SAND SPRINGS, Okla. – Tely Energy Racing/KTM’s Grant Baylor earned his fifth victory of the season on Sunday with another impressive ride at Round 9 of the 2019 AMA National Enduro Series in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. His brother and teammate, Steward Baylor Jr., finished a very close second to maintain his points lead in the NE Pro1 Championship as the series heads into its final round next month.
It was an all-out battle between the Baylor brothers all day long, as they finished only 13 seconds apart after seven tests. And while Steward actually won the most tests of the day with a total of three, it was Grant who tipped the scale with a slightly more consistent string of finishes inside the top three.
Grant Baylor: “I’m really happy to add another win to the season. Things are really starting to click for me with a second-straight victory and I’m hoping to carry this momentum into the final round of the season.”
The two riders had compatible times throughout most of the day but Steward seemed to struggle with sections one and three, where he lost the most time to his brother. Other than that, it was a head-to-head battle all afternoon and the championship points leader looks to claim redemption at the season finale.
Steward Baylor: “I’m not too happy with the way I rode today. I knew I should have been able to win on this track, I just made too many mistakes along the way. As far as championship points go, I’m sitting in a good position and I’m looking forward to the last round.”
