It was an all-out battle for the podium at Round 7 of the 2021 AMA National Enduro Championship and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing teammates Craig DeLong and Trevor Bollinger were in the mix all day long, finishing just off the box in fourth and fifth overall, respectively.
Held in Matthews, Indiana, the Muddobbers National saw some light rainfall leading up to the race, which created a few muddy sections, but that didn’t stop super close racing from taking place all throughout the day. DeLong jumped right into it, securing a third-place finish in the opening test. He swapped back and forth between second and fifth for the remainder of the day, which put him in the running for a podium position every step of the way. With a tightly-contested battle, less than six seconds separated DeLong from third overall as he came through for a close fourth.
“The day started off pretty well and I was consistent and mostly in the battle all day,” DeLong said. “I had a couple mistakes that kind of set me back but I ended the day pretty strong. I had two solid last tests and was able to chip back at the time I lost during the day and that made the battle for a podium interesting. I came just short of second, so I’m happy to be in the mix all day and to be able to start strong and finish strong.”
Bollinger wasn’t far off the pace of DeLong with all six test-finishes inside the top-five. Rivaling the times of his teammate all day, Bollinger diced back-and-forth with DeLong and finished strong with a second in the final test, just six seconds back for fifth overall.
“It was tight racing all day from second to fifth and it’s pretty frustrating to be on the losing side of this one,” Bollinger said. “After two hours of racing, I ended up 17 seconds out of second, ultimately getting fifth. I did a better job today of closing out strong getting second in the last test but it just wasn’t enough.”
