DENVER, Colo. – It was a great night for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team as Taddy Blazusiak returned to winning form on Saturday to capture the overall win from Round 2 of the 2019 AMA EnduroCross Series in Denver. Blazusiak, a five-time AMA EnduroCross Champion, maintained his poise throughout the night to claim consistent 1-1-2 finishes in the new three-moto Super EnduroCross format.
Additionally, FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team Maxxis rider Trystan Hart had an impressive showing on Saturday, claiming his first podium appearance of the season with 3-5-1 finishes for third overall.
Coming off a commendable third-place finish at the season opener, Blazusiak and the team did some extensive testing between rounds to give the Polish rider a new engine and suspension setup heading into the mile-high altitude. The new bike changes, paired with more overall seat time in the U.S., proved to pay off big for Blazusiak as he went out and claimed the fastest lap in timed practice to set a positive tone for the rest of the night.
In Moto 1, Blazusiak got off to a fifth-place start and he worked his way into the lead by lap five. He was joined by Colton Haaker for a close battle in the final four laps but in the end, it was Blazusiak who claimed the first win of the night with a mistake-free performance. In Moto 2, the start order was reversed and Taddy forced to start from the second row. Despite a good jump, he got pushed wide off the track and he rounded the chaotic opening lap in fourth. He quickly worked his way into the lead by lap two, and from there, he once again fended off a hard-charging Haaker to claim the Moto 2 victory. In Moto 3, the chaos ensued as Taddy got caught up in carnage on the first turn and went down with Haaker, where he was forced to begin the nine-lap race from the second-to-last position. He worked his way into ninth by the end of lap one and he continued to charge through the pack to reach second by the halfway point. Knowing that Haaker was outside the top-three, Blazusiak logically managed the second half of the race in order to claim the overall victory with a second-place finish in Moto 3.
Blazusiak: “The racing was awesome and the track was good – it wasn’t too technical but it was challenging. I felt awesome, the team and I have done a lot of work between round one and here – the bike was so much better. Everything went smooth, so I am super happy with the race.”
In the Women’s class, KTM-supported rider Shelby Turner took the win for a second-straight round and FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team Maxxis rider Maria Forsberg claimed third.
Additionally, KTM-support rider Destry Abbott captured the Vet 35+ win once again in Denver.
